App Privacy Policy

This policy covers the Said & Found iPhone app. The pre-order website has its own privacy policy.

The short version

• You can use the app without an account. Then everything you save stays on your iPhone and the app sends nothing to us.
• If you sign in, what you save is stored on our servers so it syncs and can be shared with your household.
• While you are signed in, some sentences, every photo you capture, and the names and places of the things you save are sent to third-party AI providers so the app can understand and index them.
• We do not sell your data, show ads, or track you across other apps and websites.
• You can delete your account in the app at any time.

What stays on your iPhone

• Voice. When you tap the microphone, speech is turned into text on your iPhone by Apple's on-device speech recognition. Audio is never sent to us or anyone else. If your iPhone can't do this on the device, the app asks you to type instead.
• On-device understanding. On iPhones with Apple Intelligence, the app first tries to understand your sentence with Apple's on-device model. That processing happens on your iPhone.
• Your saved things and places. A copy is kept in the app's storage on your iPhone. It is included in your iPhone backups as usual.
• Search. Searching runs on your iPhone against that copy.

What we collect when you sign in

Signing in (with Apple) is optional. It is needed for syncing, household sharing and photo capture. When you sign in we store:

• Account identifiers: the user identifier Apple gives us for this app, and the email address Apple shares (this can be a private relay address if you choose "Hide My Email"). We use them to sign you in and to contact you about your account if needed.
• What you save: item names, categories, the places you put them (for example "Bedroom > Dresser > Top drawer"), whether an item was taken out, the sentence you said or typed when you saved it, and whether it came from typing, voice or a photo.
• Change history: when an item was moved, taken out or put back, and which household member did it.
• Household records: which household you belong to, your role in it, and the invite codes you create or use.
• Technical records: random identifiers the app uses so a save is never applied twice, and the time things were created or changed.

We do not store the photos you capture. We do not store your voice recordings; we never receive them.

AI processing

When you are signed in, the app may send text to our server to be understood by an AI model: when your iPhone can't understand a sentence on the device (for example, iPhones without Apple Intelligence), or when the on-device result needs a second look. Every photo you capture is sent to our server to list the things in it, together with any words you typed as a hint.

Our server passes that text or photo to a third-party AI relay service, OpenLux, which forwards it to Google Gemini models, and returns the result to the app. Only the sentence or photo is sent, not your name or email address. We do not control how long OpenLux or Google keep this data or whether they use it for other purposes; their own terms and policies apply. We don't store the photo afterwards. If a sentence is saved, it is stored as described above.

Search runs on your iPhone. We don't send your saved items to an AI provider to build a search index. If we ever add AI-powered search, we'll ask you first and update this policy before it starts.

If you don't want text or photos sent to AI providers, use the app without signing in.

Why we use your data

Only to run the app: to sign you in, understand what you tell it, store and sync your things and places, share them with your household, prevent abuse (for example by limiting how often AI features can be used), and fix problems. We do not use your data for advertising or sell it.

Where it is processed and stored

Our server runs on Cloudflare. Your account and saved data are stored in a Cloudflare database located in North America. Requests to our server are handled on Cloudflare's network, which also processes your IP address to deliver and protect the service. We don't store IP addresses in our database. The AI providers above may process data in other locations.

Who can see your data

• Your household. If you join or invite someone to a household, everyone in it can see and change the household's things, places and history, including the sentences saved with them.
• Service providers that run the app for us: Cloudflare (hosting and storage), Apple (Sign in with Apple), and OpenLux and Google (AI processing, as described above).
• When the law requires it, for example a valid court order.

How long we keep it

We keep your data while you have an account. When you delete an item, it is removed from our servers. We keep only a record of its identifier and when it was deleted, so your other devices know to remove it. Unused invite codes expire after 7 days.

Deleting your account

In the app, go to Settings > Delete Account. When you confirm:

• Your email address and Apple identifier are erased, and you are signed out everywhere.
• Any household where you are the only member is deleted with everything in it: things, places, history and invite codes.
• If you share a household, you leave it, and what's in it stays for the other members, because it is theirs too. If you were its owner, the longest-standing remaining member becomes owner.
• Everything the app stored on your iPhone is erased.

We keep an internal random account identifier and the date it was deleted, with no name or email attached, so records that point to it stay consistent. Deletion can't be undone. You can also email us to ask for deletion or for a copy of your data.

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, email us and we will delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy, we will update this page and its effective date. If a change affects how data you already gave us is used, we will tell you before it takes effect.
